There are many options available to those who are looking to buy new cutlery for their home or business. Many people tend to look at the price of their cutlery as opposed to the quality. Some might not even know that there truly is a difference between different types of cutlery sets. Whether you are looking at home cutlery sets or ones that are made for a restaurant, there are different weights of the pieces.
Medium duty cutlery sets are not the best quality out there. These pieces will bend easily and may even rust over time. However, if you own a restaurant that frequently loses its silverware, medium weight cutlery may be the right choice for you. Medium weight pieces are much cheaper than other qualities. Heavy duty sets are better than medium weight. This particular weight is the most commonly used by restaurants. The cutlery of this weight tends to hold up well to the test of time. Pieces won't bend or rust as easily as lighter weights.
If you own a fine restaurant, you may want to look at heavy duty cutlery. Though these pieces are more expensive than all the others, these will last you a very long time. They will also take the abuse of frequent dish washing better than any other. Restaurant cutlery can be made to feature different intricate designs and patterns while some are very plain and to-the-point.
Some people may not know the difference between cutlery designed for home use and cutlery designed specifically for restaurants. The difference is actually quite simple. Restaurants truly abuse their cutlery sets. Busy restaurants can have a table turnover time of a half hour to an hour. This means that the silverware on the table is constantly being washed in extremely hot and pressure-filled dish washers. And because the silverware is being used by dozens of people on a daily basis, it is probable that the cutlery will have to handle constant bending and banging. Children at the restaurant will also be using the cutlery. Children, even more so than adults, will abuse the cutlery. Children will often drop and chew on cutlery pieces.
Because of these accumulated facts about restaurant cutlery, it is no wonder that certain pieces of silverware have to be used in commercial settings. Cutlery pieces that has been designed for the home are usually medium weight and will bend and rust easily. The reason home cutlery is made using medium weight is because it is the most economically priced while also providing just what a small family needs out of their silverware.
