Finding The Best Kitchen Knives

Advice about knife sharpening?

I have two beautiful Japanese-made Damascus kitchen knives. I've had them about three or four years. They've kept an edge very well, but I'm noticing they're not quite as sharp as they were. I have no skill with a knife sharpener, so I'd rather take them to a pro. But can these be sharpened by just anybody?

They were a gift, and I don't know where they were bought, so I can't take them back to the store. I don't want to risk ruining these knives! Can anyone help? Thanks.
